The cat is out of the bag. Principle photography on Freelance, our latest feature film in collaboration with Prima Lux Films, recently kicked off in and around Melbourne.
This tight and gripping 90 minute thriller, written by New York based writer Mike Gerbino sees Katie (Nicole Pastor) as a down-on-her luck video editor taking on on a mysterious, well-paying job cutting snuff films, when she is haunted by visions of the people in her videos.
Supporting roles see Kevin (Jordan Fraser-Trumble), Guy (Stephen Degenaro), Tommy (Jasper Bagg) and Olive (Hannah Brooke join the production to create the engrossing world of Katie.
At the helm of this feature is Director John Balazs of Prima Lux Films, flanked by Producers Marlane Ghmed and Vikki Blinks.
The ambitious 4 week shoot with over 30 different locations is well underway now and sees some of the hardest working crew joining the production, committed at all hours around the clock to help bring a love of professionalism and expertise that is seldom seen within the independent film scene.
This film is also special because it is the first leading role in a feature for Nicole Pastor, an exceptionally talented Sydney-based actress on a continually upward trending trajectory.
Nicole has previously had supporting roles in 'Ruby's Choice' (opposite legendary Jane Seymour) as well as yet-to-be released 'The Cost' amongst other productions.
The role of Katie in Freelance is a complex role requiring Nicole to reach into the dark depths of life and will see her challenged with decisions in the film that no one should ever have to make.
Jordan Fraser-Trumble, traditionally a theatre actor, brings a level of refinement and polish that would not typically be seen in such a gritty genre. Jordan is fresh off the set of 'Love, Tea & Ephiphany' as well as 'The Cost', which sees him as one of the lead cast members. He also gave a memorable performance in the 2017 Australian epic 'The Legend of Ben Hall' Directed by Matthew Holmes.
Behind the camera is cinematographer David Chan supported by a talented team.
Inside Film Magazine was the first to publicly disclose news of Freelance via a fantastic article published on May 3, 2023 seen here.
With strong indicative interested from several leading US distributors, we cannot wait to have principle photography wrapped up and in the can so that post-production can begin.
